Paul Klee (1879-1940) was a Swiss-born German artist. Art movements such as Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism influenced his highly individualistic style. Klee was skilled at manipulating color and was a close friend of Kandinsky. He died in 1940 at the age of sixty, leaving behind approximately 9,000 works of art.
